Over 6000 students attend Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Quiz Bowl on May 8th, 2015 sponsored by HiFiK
Gurnee (May 21, 2015) – HiFiKids Corporation and TAG Education Collaborative (TAG-Ed), the Technology Association of Georgia’s charitable organization dedicated to preparing the next-generation workforce, is proud to announce that over 630,000 students and educators participated in a statewide celebration of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education on May 8, 2015, and almost 6,000 students participated in STEM quiz bowl sponsored by HiFiKids Corp.
“TAG-Ed and our corporate and community partners are thrilled that STEM Day is gaining traction across the state,” said Tino Mantella, president of the Technology Association of Georgia. “As this initiative grows, we hope that STEM Day will be celebrated on an annual basis by each student in every school throughout Georgia.”
STEM Day participants ranged from individual classrooms to entire school districts. Palmetto Elementary students in Fulton County explored physical and chemical components of science by creating lava lamps. Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology planned a full-day celebration that concluded with an awards banquet to honor student achievements in STEM. Assistant Principal Summer Hall of R.B. Wright Elementary in Colquitt County said her students had more fun on STEM Day than during the school’s field day. These are just a few of the hundreds of STEM Day activities completed across the state.
Additionally, local companies and universities committed to STEM education outreach partnered with educators to provide speakers and field trip opportunities in order to help students make the vital connection between their curriculum and STEM careers. For example, Junior Achievement of Georgia and Randstad volunteers are partnering together to bring STEM awareness through interactive career and budgeting activities at JA Finance Park.
Participants of STEM Day have the opportunity to be recognized for the Technology Association of Georgia’s STEM Education Awards, held this September in Atlanta, Ga. The STEM Education Awards were created to recognize schools, programs and companies for outstanding efforts and achievements in supporting STEM education in Georgia.
